Mobile Friendliness becomes contingent for SEO

Responsive Web Design is nearly a requirement

Since 2011 we have been focusing a lot of our efforts on Responsive Web Design and figuring out what’s the most effective way of changing a website’s appearance based upon the user device.  Jumping back to 2016, Mobile Friendliness becomes more of a requirement than ever before! A 2015 study conducted by SmartInsights.com shows that 80% of internet users own a smartphone and nearly 50% of web searches begin on a smartphone. Those two percentages alone show consumers how important mobile experience will be in the coming years!

Google Rolls out Mobile Friendliness update

On April 21st 2015 Google launched a Mobile Friendly update to its search algorithms. In the most basic sense, this means that Google is ranking mobile friendly websites exponentially higher than non mobile friendly websites. A “desktop website” will still rank in Google for now, but it can expect to be beat out by a more mobile friendly website.  Luckily, Google provides consumers with a helpful Mobile Friendliness checker that is free to use. Welp, it appears we all need mobile friendly websites now if we want to appear on page one in Google Search!
